Pioneer

Exhibited in 2024, Pioneer combines pinhole photography with printed and embossed screen prints of gorse and Crown symbols to explore the layered memories and evolving narratives of our shared history. Symbolised by the enduring presence of colonial trees, these works reflect on the lasting impact of settlement in Aotearoa New Zealand. The remaining upright skeletons of these introduced trees stand as silent markers in the landscape — witnesses to change, resilience, and the passage of time.
